Welcome to Trier in the German state of Rheinland Pfalz. This cabride is a German classic. Just like the Rhine routes, it’s a river hugging run through breath taking scenery. There is international interest here as well, the Moselstrecke is the number one route for SNCF freight entering the Federal Republic. In fact we see more Prima locomotives then native RAILION machines on our one hour twenty minute journey. The run gets really interesting at Pünderich (see cover picture) where the Mosel run proper begins. Here we take a virtual pause and do a little photograhy from the hills above. At Bullay - an Umweltbahnhof - our train makes its second stop - another great place to watch the thundering freights pass! Then follows the 4.2 km Kaiser Wilhelm tunnel (cut) before Cochem and its fabulous Schloss. The rest of the run is very tight alongside the river through the famous vineyards. It’s underneath the high Autobahnbrücke over the Mosel and into Koblenz. Haulage is a DB dual voltage class 181, catch this while you can! There is much off-train camerawork so you can fully enjoy what might be the last year of operation for the class. Filmed from train, land and boat. RT 75mins
