TTR4 we explore the Netherlands, from the Hook of Holland and Rotterdam in the west to Hengelo in the east, a few kilometres from the German border. We hitch a lift with a special charter train organised by Workgroep 1501 and travel to Dordrecht where we see Dutch Railways, NS, hard at work: double deck passenger trains, Thalys High Speed passenger trains and Europe’s heaviest freight train. Onward, parallel to the route of the new freight only “Betuwe: line now under construction to ‘s Hertogenbosch and its ultra modern station. Across flat farm land via Arnhem to Hengelo for a rail open day sponsored by NS. All the fun of the fair, including a steam run by and then back via Utrecht to Rotterdam. In complete contrast we spend a morning at the CORUS steel works, the largest in the Netherlands, riding their internal rail system and viewing the steel industry at work. A unique rail experience organised by Platform 5. The film is fully narrated by Jonathan Hewat of BBC Radio 2 and is illustrated with graphics throughout. RT 50 mins
