TTR43 Railfreight in the Netherlands is changing, and changing fast! New operators now compete with the national incumbent Railion. When the state owned company wished to divest itself of internal - that’s within the Netherlands - container transport, Vos Logistics rose to the challenge and ACTS was formed to take over the business. The locomotives used on this Leeuwarden shuttle are not exactly in the first flushes of youth, being purchased second hand from the NS. The class 1200 are American in design, and it shows, and require an unusual driving style, you will see your driver (an NS instructor) demonstrate this. The run to the marshalling yard south of Rotterdam could hardly be called direct! First, we head north to Amsterdam, then around the city rail ring before heading south once more. All this to avoid congested Utrecht! The run varies from open countryside to intensely urban Rotterdam, and includes some great views of part of the quadrupling work currently underway.
